Synthetic turf perfectly mimics natural grass. And no need to mow this lawn which, moreover, hardly attracts insects. Under these conditions, it is understandable that he was so successful. But if you want to enjoy your artificial lawn, it must first be laid correctly.

Gather the necessary materials

Before installing your synthetic turf, make sure you have all the tools you will need on hand.

The meter and the level will allow the preliminary measurements to be made. Do not forget the weedkiller, essential for soil preparation. As for the roll, it will finish equalizing it.

The cutter will also be very useful, as will a geotextile felt, a kind of tear-proof canvas, which is used to separate various elements. Adhesive strips will also be essential.

And be sure to put on protective gloves before starting to install your lawn.

The preparation

On the garden floor

First of all, make a plan of your land and measure it, so you know how much sod you need.

In order for the loose soil in the garden to provide adequate support for the artificial lawn, it must first be cleared of its weeds. For this operation, to be repeated several times, use an effective weedkiller.

Remember to remove anything that could cause roughness in the surface of the grass. It is therefore necessary to remove the stones and the roots and to level the clods of earth.

All you have to do is water the soil lightly, before leveling it with a roller or similar tool. The last step in this preparation consists of laying a geotextile felt on the ground to receive the grass, and adding a layer of quarry sand to it.

On the terrace

The installation of synthetic turf on this hard ground is not fundamentally different. Here again, you have to remove gravel and other debris that could make bumps in the grass.

If weeds grow in the gaps in the slabs, remember to weed carefully. In this case, the use of a geotextile felt is also necessary.

Laying the grass

To get a straight installation, choose a convenient spot to install the first strip of sod. It could be a wall, for example. In order for the strips to fit together harmoniously, the edges must be cut neatly.

To do this, use a cutter. To cut each strip, turn it inside out, and follow the stitch lines. If you want synthetic turf to have all the appearance of a natural lawn, the blades of grass in each strip must be facing the same direction.

Before laying the first length, remove the part which is used for packaging the rolls of artificial grass. When the strips cover the entire surface, fold the sod on each side of two neighboring strips. You have to fix an adhesive joint strip on the ground, on which you will fold the sides of the strips.
