How to choose the right privacy plant?

The privacy screen plant fulfills an essential role: it protects you from vis-à-vis, neighbors who are too present or simply passing through a street. To preserve your privacy, it must be quite tall and perennial and that it has sufficiently dense and persistent foliage.

Non-tracing bamboos

It is a variety of bamboo which tends to develop in very tight tufts, providing good protection, flexible but well obscuring to be out of sight.

These plants like drained and cool soils, sun or partial shade and they do not require any maintenance. Only downside: they reach adulthood in 4 to 6 years. There are several varieties.

With its evergreen foliage, its compact and rounded habit and its size of 3 to 4 meters in height and width, it is perfect. It is also very aesthetic and gives beautiful flowers between November and April, when the garden is generally lacking.

It thrives in the sun or in partial shade, in all soils and they tolerate spray and pollution. Temperatures above – 5 ° C are not recommended.

Persistent berberis

It is a small evergreen shrub not exceeding 2.50 meters in height with glossy and dense foliage. It thrives on all well-drained soils and loves both sun and partial shade. It is easy to maintain, it is a thorny which acts as a privacy screen very easily.

Persistent Elaeagnus

The major advantage of this type of shrub is certainly its rapid growth and robustness. It does not remain less aesthetic with its autumn flowers, discreet, elegant and fragrant and its decorative foliage. It is easy to maintain, because it is very resistant to wind, pollution, spray, disease, drought… It does not like calcareous soils.

Escallonia

It is a shrub with a spreading habit which flowers during the summer and which presents a brilliant and very aesthetic foliage. He loves all soils as long as they are well drained. However, it does not support limestone soils and it is not very rustic. It must be in the sun and it acts as a screen if it is not exposed to the winds.

The privet

It is a classic shrub that creates a very opaque curtain with its small shiny leaves and flowers blooming between May and July. It is resistant down to -20 ° C and it has a good height. It appreciates all drained soils. It is resistant to disease, pollution and pests, but all parts of the plant are poisonous.

Photinia fraseri

It is a perfect shrub to escape exposure to prying eyes, as it is very compact with its dark green foliage and young shoots. It is covered with delicately scented white flowers in May. They like deep and drained soils, it dreads cold winds and excess humidity.

Star jasmine

With its evergreen leaves, of a dark and shiny green, it protects you perfectly, especially as it climbs up to 6 meters in height and is 3 meters wide, however it requires good support. We love its delicate scented flowers which are present between June and October. It is easy to care for away from strong winds, as it is well resistant to pests and diseases.
